Obituary for Verlyn Eugene “Gene” Holloman

Mr. Verlyn Eugene “Gene” Holloman, age 80 of Temple, passed away, Sunday, May 10, 2020. He was born July 23, 1939 in Villa Rica the son of the late Mr. Herschel C. Holloman and the late Mrs. Annie Stephens Holloman. Mr. Holloman retired from the City of Atlanta Police Department in 1991 after 25 years of service. He loved to fish and his family. Mr. Holloman was a member of Liberty Christian Church.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by brothers, Charles and Robert Holloman.
Mr. Holloman is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mrs. Cora Yearty Holloman of Temple; daughter, Jan Gerstenberger of Temple; sisters, Annie Ruth Hathcock of Temple, Georgie Boyd of Villa Rica; brothers and sister-in-law, Clifford and Pat Holloman of Temple, Ed Holloman of Temple; two grandchildren, Tonya and Bill Carroll of Smyrna, Daniel and Melissa White of Temple; two great grandchildren, Kinley and Kelsey; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
We are still providing services to our families based on CDC Covid-19 guidelines. According to Mr. Holloman’s wishes he will be cremated. A private service will be held for the family.

Mr. Holloman was a great friend and customer of mine at CVS for years. He was definitely one of my favorites, just as Mrs. Cora was. Some people are customers, but he was a true friend to me. He invited me to come fishing but I just never took the time to do it. I will rember his kindness and his respect. Rest easy Mr. Holloman!
