Obituary For Lillian “Diamond Lil” Ruth Blair Nicholson

Lillian “Diamond Lil” Ruth Blair Nicholson passed away on December 11, 2020. She was born in Rome, Georgia, on November 13, 1921, the daughter of Harry Leroy Blair and Adelaide Mable Blair. She is a descendent of Robert Mable, founder of Mableton.
Lillian’s early years were spent in Chattanooga, TN the youngest of eight children. She was raised in the Presbyterian Church where she learned to love God and live a life of faith. After living all over the world, Lillian moved to Carrollton, GA where she worked for the Alumni House of West Georgia College. She was an active member of Carrollton Presbyterian Church serving as an elder for many years.
Lillian loved to spend time with her family and friends. She never missed an opportunity to travel, go shopping, or attend a party. Whether she was entertaining bridge clubs or playing games with grandchildren, you could hear her laughter. Conversation with others was her most favorite activity. She had a way of making you feel like you were the most important person in the room.
She was a wonderful mother and friend to her surviving five children: Judy Nicholson Rudolph (Susan), Robert Harvey Nicholson (Wendy), Susan Nicholson Hartle, John Alexander Nicholson (Joy), and Mary Nicholson Woodfin (Mike). She is also survived by her grandchildren: Katherine Gonzalez, Nicholas Rudolph, Michael Nicholson, Matthew Hartle, Blair Hartle DuBose, Becca Nicholson, David Nicholson, Charles Woodfin, and Mary Boggs; and many loving nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to give a memorial gift to the charity of your choice. Visitation will be held at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Villa Rica on December 15, 2020 from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm. Following the visitation, a graveside funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm. at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta.

We worshiped with Lillian at Carrollton Presbyterian. She was always kind, cheerful, and welcoming. Lillian had a servant’s heart for doing God’s work at the church. It was evident that she loved God, her children, and grandchildren and that love was returned to her. We were blessed to have known Lillian. -Judy Durscher

It was always a blessing to be in Miss Lillian’s presence. He infectious smile and twinkling eyes brought happiness to all who knew her. I loved walking up the street to sit in a chair next to her and listen to her talk about her wonderful adventures. I never tired of hearing about all the amazing changes she saw in her life and marveled at her ability to make everyone feel her joy of life. Her age certainly didn’t hold her back. The thought that she left behind so many wonderful memories for so many people is truly a blessing.

I worked as a student with Miss Lillian at the Alumni House at West Georgia College from 1980-1983. She was a good and patient friend who listened to me and advised me at a critical time in my life. As I read her obit this morning, I realized that she was the same age then as I am now. So many years have passed, but I still have such special memories of her and said a prayer of thanks for her life well-lived. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
