Obituary for Elizabeth “Lizzie” Anthony

A Time to Be Born: Elizabeth “Lizzie” Delores Evans Anthony was born 0n September 29, 1919 in Ritter, South Carolina to the late Reverend Joe Evans and the late Mrs. Susanna Grant Evans. A Time to Love: On November 29, 1947, she was united in holy matrimony to Benjamin J. Anthony who preceded her in death. A Time to Live: Elizabeth was led by the spirit to accept Christ as her personal Lord and Savior early in life and joined St. Paul CME Church in Savannah, Georgia where she became a very active member. She sang in the Gospel Chorus and served on the Missionary Society, Pastor’s Aide Board and the Willing Worker’s Board. In addition to her church, she was a member of the Eastern Star and the Twelve Keys Social Club. Elizabeth received her early education in Ritter and Walterboro, SC. She attended Voorhees College in Denmark, SC. In later years, she would attend Myers School of Cosmology and Savannah Vocational School where she excelled in tailoring and drapery making. She was an awesome seamstress which afforded her the opportunity to work for businesses such as Levy’s Department Store, Fashion King and, Ira Michael’s LTD where she tailored men’s clothing. In September of 2000 she left Savannah and moved to Atlanta, GA to help raise her granddaughter, Kayla. Although she moved away, Elizabeth never forgot her church or family. She always knew what was going on at her church because she stayed in contact with many of the members. Her granddaughter, Johnnie Mae, also a member of St. Paul, often joked that “Lizzie” knew more about what was happening at church than she did. A Time to Die: Elizabeth was preceded in death by one daughter, Vivian A. Walker, all of her siblings, Hattie Singleton Brown, Carrie Mack, Annie Mae Robinson, Joe Evans, John Evans, Lottie Brown and Wilhelmina Evans.
